Some readers have asked how to report suspected or confirmed cybercrimes to the appropriate authorities. Because our readers are from all over the world, this post may not provide a global answer to all, but is should be a good starting point.

The most common cybercrimes and the suggested US federal law enforcement agencies are as follows:

In the U.S. the agency dealing with cybercrime prosecution is the Department of Justice’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS.)  Although most cybercrime in the US involves a federal agency, there are some crimes (e.g. spam, spyware, malware) that are prosecuted by a state agency - usually the state’s Attorney General. It may be worth checking your state’s Attorney General’s website for more information.
